Apple Butter
October is a perfect time to start making apple sauce or apple butter.
The difference between them both is that apple butter is cooked longer, which allows sugar to caramelize into a thick jam-like spread. In order to successfully caramelize, recipes usually require cooking slowly for several hours or even days.
In the past I only made apple sauce, because it was full of flavor, and quick to make, but when I came across several recipes for apple butter made in Instant Pot, which of course means time effective, I needed to try it.
I am so happy to report, that it was easy, quick and soo yummy! No peel Instant Pot Apple Butter is so easy to make you will never buy apple butter or apple sauce in the store again!
It’s hard to believe, but you can make your own apple butter in less then an hour, and your house is going to smell so nice!
The highlight of this recipe was that I didn’t even have to peel my apples and I added very little sugar. I made enough for everyone got a nice tase of this delishisness, but I am going to use the rest to make Apple Butter Cinnamon Rolls.
Looks for that recipe soon.
Ingredients :
4 lbs apples, don’t remove peel ( I used Ginger Gold apples, but any sweet apples will work)
1/2 cup water, I used a little bit more water, because you never know how juicy are your apples. If you get to much liquid after you done cooking your apples, turn your Instant Pot on sauté mode and cook down the liquid.
2Tbl brown sugar
dash salt
juice from 1 lemon
1/4 tsp ginger powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
Instructions:
Wash and cut apples into wedges. Discard the core, but don’t peel the apples.
Place the apples into the Instant Pot and add water, spice, brown sugar and salt.
Close and secure the lid to the locked position. Check to make sure the vent is turned to Seal.
Set on Manual setting, and set timer to 7 minutes. Let naturally release the steam.
After you open the lid and the apple butter is too runny, you can do two things: set on Sauté setting and cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring frequently, or move the apple butter to a medium pot and cook it on low heat and for 10 minutes until you get the desire consistency.
* It depends on your apples, how juicy they are. Some recipes call for less water when you start making the butter in the Instant Pot, but to ensure proper pressure and prevent burning I prefer adding 1/2 a cup of water.
After your apple butter is cooked and the apples didn’t break down completely, use the immerse blender to make it smooth and creamy.
Spoon apple butter into containers or jars ( my apples made enough apple butter to fill 2 medium size jars ).
